Ribbit (The story should begin being read out loud - use the control panel below to pause or increase volume)
It was a hot summer’s afternoon. Polly and Peter asked their mother Priscilla if they could go to the pond for a swim. “Please Mother can we go for a swim” asked Peter. “We will go and ask our friends Tilly and Bobby Ladybug if they would like to come with us” called out Polly, as they were on their way out the door. Tilly and Bobby were only too happy to join their friends for a swim; it had been a long hot summer. Soon they all arrived at the pond, the girls put down their little bags and a pretty blanket made of rose petals. Polly and Tilly laughed as they played and splashed around in the water. Suddenly Polly let out a squeal. “Don’t be silly Polly, it’s just a frog” called out Bobby. “Oh we haven’t seen frogs before” said Peter. Suddenly the four friends heard a loud ‘croak’ as the biggest frog looked up at them, “Hello young people my name is Ribbit and these other two frogs are my younger brother and sister, Mervin and Rosie,” said the frog. “We live here most of the time, but sometimes we live in the other pond down the road” he added. “Oh that is why we don’t always see you?” said Bobby. “You are quite safe with us” said Ribbit. “We love to meet new people and make new friends” “Oh that nice,” said Polly feeling more relaxed. “We live in Pipsville, up the road. Our Father is Mayor Percy.” “We have made more new friends Polly” said Peter, smiling at his sister. “Yes we have, it’s lovely that we have met so many nice people since we moved to Pipsville” Polly replied. After they had spent a couple of hours chatting with Bobby and Tilly and getting acquainted with their new friends, Peter and Polly made their way home. “We have had a lovely afternoon at the pond Mother and we have made some more new friends” said Peter. |
